Tour Overview

redspokes Skye and the Wild West road bike cycling holiday sets off from Inverness with a ride across the Black Isle to Cromarty a beautiful 18th Century fishing town. Poised on the edge of the Black Isle, at the mouth of Cromarty Firth it is the best-preserved historic town in the Highlands. Here we catch the Kings Ferry, one of the world’s smallest car ferries. Across the firth we ride on to Dornoch Firth and follow a coastal route to Ardgay, then push on to Invershin. We continue cycling across country to west coast Ullapool.

From here we catch a ferry across Loch Broom then ride towards Corrieshalloch Nature Reserve, an area of beautiful forested countryside with a series of cascading waterfalls. From here we continue cycling to Inerewe a unique coastal botanical garden. We continue cycling to Kinlochewe and ride on passing sea lochs, encountering steep climbs and descents to Applecross.

We cut inland to tackle Bealch Na Ba, the UK’s highest tarmac road. From near sea-level it rises 626m in 9.1km of uphill, reaching 20% at its steepest gradient. Over the peak we descend a series of hairpin bends and gentler road before another climb to reach Locharron.

Cycling on we catch the Skye ferry and ride the east coast of the Isle before catching another boat back to the mainland at Mallaig. We cycle to Arisaig, known for its beautiful coastline ‘The White Sands of Morar’, where the film Local Hero was filmed. Our final day of cycling brings us to Fort William. From here we will transfer back to Inverness where redspokes Skye and the Wild West road bike cycling holiday ends.
