Highland Fling

5 day road bike

Tour Overview

redspokes’ 5 Day Highland Fling Scotland cycling holiday condenses the best of the Highlands into an action-packed itinerary. We begin in Inverness, Highland capital city, transferring to the ancient ice gouged Corrieshalloch Gorge nature reserve. From here we begin riding towards the North West shorelines. We follow Little Loch Broom before curving away from the headland towards Mungasdale hamlet, to ride around the coast with scenic views of Gruinard Island on our way to Laide. We pass Inverewe Gardens a unique coastal botanical oasis. We continue riding following loch side, coastal and forested tracks, taking in a wild scenery of munros, sea views and lochs in the company of red squirrel, red deer, otter, and eagles.

From Kinlochewe we ride single track to Torridon and follow the peninsula coastal road with stunning ‘edge of the world’ sea views to reach Applecross; believed to be one of the earliest areas of settlement in Scotland. redspokes Highland Fling cycling holiday would not be complete without an adventure challenge and at the village we turn inland to ride the UK's highest tarmac road, Bealach Na Bà (Pass of the Cattle). Starting from near sea-level it rises 626m in 9.1km of uphill, reaching 20% at its steepest gradient. At the peak we’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Cuillin Mountain Range across the water on the Isle of Skye. After a thrilling hairpin descent, we continue our ride towards Locharron.

Cycling on through scenic woodland passing lochs and rivers we stop at Rogie Falls, where in August and September from the viewpoint of the dramatic suspension bridge that hangs over the rushing waters, you may see salmon leaping on their journey upstream. We ride on to the Muir of Ord, home to one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries. From here we drop down to the shores of the Beauly Firth riding our final few miles on quiet road to reach North Kessock and cross back over the bridge to Inverness where redspokes 5 Day Highland Fling Scotland cycling holiday ends.
