Bespoke tours of Tibet tailored especially for you
Cycling in the Tibetan Plateaus is an awe-inspiring experience and a must for all adventure cyclists. After a couple of days exploring Kathmandu we take a dramatic flight across the great Himalayan range to Lhasa: capital of Tibet. This is one of the most interesting, remote and spectacular parts of the world.
We begin with 3 days of sightseeing and acclimatising We set off on the bikes from Lhasa following the Northern Friendship Highway through the Duilong Valley and on to Yangpachen where you can bathe in the world’s highest swimming pool. Our first pass is the Suge La at 5430 it is one of the world’s highest motor able roads, then it’s on to Dongu La before we reach Shigatse for a well-earned rest day.
Our journey continues across a beautiful landscape of snow-capped summits. There are signs of religious devotion all around us; prayer flags fluttering on the tallest mountain passes, innumerable monasteries and temples with frequent processions of devout pilgrims.
Everest Base Camp is an ‘unmissable’ highlight of our tour. The cycle there is another major challenge, as the road climbs almost fifty hairpin bends over the Pang La Pass. Here at 5150m we enjoy magnificent views of the Himalaya, and of Mt. Everest itself. Reaching Base Camp is a memorable experience few ever forget. Our tour offers some great physical challenges with breath-taking scenery as you cycle "the Roof of the World"
Grading: This trip is designed for the experienced cyclist. The distances and gradient each day are not extreme, but the altitude and terrain make this a tough trip. Along with the Karakoram Highway this is arguably the most spectacular and varied mountain scenery in the world.
